A group of 12 young cricketers from Worcestershire Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine Street Girls Projects travelled to Nottingham for a memorable day of indoor cricket at the Chance to Shine Street Girls National Finals.
Bringing together teams from across the country, the competition provided an opportunity for players to test themselves against some of the best young cricketers involved in Chance to Shine Street programmes nationwide. Representing Worcestershire were teams in both the Under 13s and Under 15s age groups, with players competing across a packed schedule of matches throughout the day.
The Under 13s faced a series of closely contested group games and were unfortunate to lose three narrow matches. Despite the results, there were several impressive performances, particularly from batters Chelsea, Zoya and Eliza, who opened the batting in each game and remained unbeaten throughout their innings. The team finished the tournament on a high, securing victory in their final match thanks to an excellent bowling performance from Rita, ultimately claiming seventh place overall.
The Under 15s also produced some outstanding cricket during the competition. After a closely fought opening match, they rebounded with an impressive win over Surrey before competing strongly throughout the remainder of the tournament. A standout moment came as Izzy and Lalita shared an unbeaten opening partnership of 61 runs, setting the platform for victory. In the field, Millie, Lacey and Erin each claimed wickets to help secure the result. Their performances saw the team finish seventh out of twelve competing sides.
Eliza, Who was attending National Finals for the first time said, ‘It was an great day and I had a lot of fun, it was my first experience of a cricket tournament and it was good to meet my teammates and spend the day with them.‘
Away from the action on the court, players were given the opportunity to meet Pakistan Women’s captain Fatima Sana, who shared her experiences of playing cricket at the highest level. She spoke about the challenges and opportunities she encountered throughout her journey and highlighted the importance of resilience, teamwork and self-belief, offering valuable advice both on and off the cricket field.
The day was a fantastic experience for all involved, providing opportunities to compete, build friendships and create lasting memories while representing Worcestershire on the national stage. The event also highlighted the continued success of the Foundation’s girls’ cricket programmes and the progress made by participants throughout the year.
Worcestershire Cricket Foundation would like to thank all 12 players for their dedication, hard work and commitment throughout the season.
Congratulations to everyone involved on a fantastic achievement and for representing Worcestershire Cricket Foundation so positively at the Chance to Shine National Finals.
