Worcestershire Cricket Foundation Safeguarding Newsletter November 2024

Safeguarding in Cricket
As the year comes to a close, cricket might not be on everyone’s mind at this time of year. But safeguarding doesn’t stop, there are a few important reminders and updates I would like to inform you about. Please feel free to pass this on to any members of recreational clubs in Worcestershire.

DBS Fee Change

On 4th November 2024, Parliament approved an increase in the cost for an Enhanced DBS check and the Update Service annual subscription, from £38 and £13 up to £49.50 and £16, which takes effect as of 2nd December 2024.

These changes will only affect those in a paid role, and the DBS has made the cost increase decision. The ECB does not pass any administration costs onto paid or volunteer applicants.

ECB DBS checks and subscription to the Update Service will continue to be free for volunteers.

These updates will be reflected in the Safe Hands Help Centre by December 2nd, 2024. Atlantic Data (ECB’s DBS service provider) will update its homepage, the application form, and all associated communications to reflect these new prices so applicants are aware.

Safe Hands Workshop

The next Safe Hands workshop will be held at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Wednesday, 29th January, from 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm.  This is mandatory training for all Club Safeguarding Officers and needs to be renewed every 3 years. Lots of you have enrolled already, which is great, but we still have lots of spaces left.

NSPCC/CPSU Listen Up, Speak Up Campaign

The event will be held at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Monday, 3rd February 2025, from 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm. The poster to put up in your clubs and send out via email is attached. Please use the link below to book to attend.

Please share this with EVERYONE associated with your club.

This year’s campaign aims to focus on the importance of building stronger, more inclusive communities around sporting and activity clubs, encouraging parents and carers to look out for not just the young people taking part but their families too, helping anyone who needs support to get it sooner.

The training will be led by the NSPCC and will also be attended by several WCC players who will be showing their support.

More information can be found at The CSPU.
