The walk allows people to connect with their community and the people around them. This is followed by a Q&A with our inspirational guest speaker.

Q&A with Sue Redfern

After the Walk we will settle into our seats to listen to our Brilliant guest speaker, Sue Redfern.

Sue is currently an international umpire but was a former cricketer who played in the England’s Women’s team between 1995 and 1999 including the 1997 world cup.

In 1992, Redfern started her county career with East Midlands, moving on to Derbyshire in 1997 and Staffordshire in 2003. At the age of 17, she participated in European Championship matches against the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ireland in July 1995, marking the start of her international career. Later in the year, she made her Test debut against India.

Post playing career Sue went into umpiring at club level cricket. After a couple successful years she made her way into the international scene. She was one of four female umpires selected by the ICC to officiate games in the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in January 2017. She was the first female player to participate in a Women’s Cricket World Cup and later serve as an umpire in a competition. More recently, In September 2023, she made history as the first woman to serve as an umpire in a first-class match in England and Wales. She officiated the game between Glamorgan and Derbyshire at Sophia Gardens.
