Worcestershire Cricket Foundation made history by delivering the first ever seated cricket session designed specifically for a group of entirely visually impaired and blind participants, during a visit to the Beacon Centre.
A total of 16 participants took part in the ground breaking session, which was expertly led by Inclusion Coach and VI Cricket Lead, Conor and Disability Development Officer Nic. The session featured a variety of fun and engaging seated cricket activities, including throwing, catching, and batting, all carefully adapted to ensure they were fully inclusive and accessible to everyone involved. The activities supported participants to build confidence, improve coordination, and enjoy being active in a safe and supportive environment.
The session was a resounding success, filled with laughter, energy, and positive interaction throughout. As well as promoting physical activity, it created valuable opportunities for social connection, helping participants to engage with one another and experience a strong sense of teamwork. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how much they enjoyed the session and their enthusiasm to take part again in the future.
The partnership between the Beacon Centre and the Worcestershire Cricket Foundation has already shown strong potential for long-term impact. Following the success of this inaugural session, Conor and Nic returned to deliver an additional cricket session for residents, further strengthening the relationship between the two organisations.
Looking ahead, there are exciting plans to expand the programme, including the delivery of visually impaired cricket sessions for school members who access the centre, ensuring even more people have the opportunity to experience inclusive and adapted cricket for the first time.
