Sporting Memories Cafè

Welcome to the Worcester cricket foundation Sports memories café.

The Sporting Memories café is an initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for older adults, our group:

  • Reduces isolation
  • Improves mental wellbeing
  • Improves physical wellbeing

By celebrating the love of sport, we create a warm, supportive environment where participants can share memories, enjoy meaningful social interaction, and boost their cognitive health.

Within our group, we focus on achieving four key objectives through sports quizzes, engaging activities, guest speakers, and more. These objectives are:

  • Promote Reminiscence: Using your understanding of sports as a trigger to bring back pleasant memories and encounters.
  • Enhance Social Interaction: Establish a community setting where people may interact and exchange tales.
  • Enhance Mental Health: To fight depression and loneliness, provide emotional support and cognitive stimulation.
  • Promote Inclusivity: Involve people with different skill levels to make sure everyone is respected and feels at home.

This is a group for anyone and everyone who wants to reminisce about sport and build friendships through laughter and conversation. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive community that welcomes participants from all walks of life. Although we are not a dementia café, we do have members who are living with dementia, and they are fully supported by our staff, all of whom are Dementia Friends.

If interested, please come along to our sessions that are Thursdays.

great opportunities to talk

Worcestershire Sporting Memories Cafe was set up 8 years ago, which has provided a comfortable, safe and friendly environment for many people with a love of sport that can get together to discuss the past and compare it with the present. The Café caters to all people which may have dementia in various stages or need reassurances about their memory situation, loneliness, grief or the need to reconnect with society in a form where there is a common theme of sport. The café offers some great opportunities to talk to likeminded others or to listen to our intriguing guest speakers which we invite. Through this Café it enables people to be confident and gives them something to look forward to.
