About WCF Academy

The WCF Academy is a selection of group sessions with players of similar age & ability working on learning and developing new batting, bowling and fielding skills.

Sessions run from September to March (term-time) on Saturday mornings (09:00 – 12:00) at King’s School, Worcester, with three individual hour-long sessions each week:

  • Introduction to Hardball – 09:00 – 10:00
  • Girls Only Hardball – 10:00 – 11:00
  • Hardball – 11:00 – 12:00

Introduction to Hardball

For those aged 8 – 11 who are new, or relatively new, to Hardball.

Aimed at those who have been playing Under 9 or 10 Softball Pairs League cricket and looking to give Hardball a go for the first time.

Also appropriate for those who have played Under 10 or 11 Hardball Pairs League cricket and are looking to build their confidence and skills.

The introduction to hardball group is ideal for players making the transition from softball cricket, giving them the chance to bat in pads, bowl with a hardball and build confidence in a fun and supportive setting.

Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment, although hardball kit can be provided if needed. Male participants must bring an abdomen protector (box). 

Girls Only Hardball

For girls aged 9 – 13 who are new to hardball or established hardball players.
This session will be split into sub-groups where appropriate, and therefore suitable for those who have played or are looking to play in the Under 11 or 13 Introduction to Hardball Leagues, as well as the Under 13 Traditional Hardball League.

Designed for girls who want to develop their cricket skills in a fun, supportive and encouraging environment.

Hardball

For those aged 11 – 14, who are confident hardball players looking to develop thier game to the next level.

Aimed predominantly at those who play Sunday Under 11 – 14 Junior County League cricket.

Experienced players will focus on developing core skills, tactical awareness, decision making and leadership, with practices designed to challenge players under pressure and at pace.
