2026 marks another milestone for Worcester Nomads Cricket Club with the creation of the first girl’s team in the club’s history!
With a thriving junior section and the continued growth of women’s teams in recent years, the introduction of a girls’ team ensures there is truly something for everyone at the club. Worcester Nomads is working closely with the local councillor and wider community to encourage more girls to get involved in cricket. The club has entered an Under 11s league this year and is going to welcome girls of all ages, offering fixtures to suit a wide range of abilities and experience levels.
The initiative aims to attract both newcomers to the sport and existing players from clubs where there is currently no girls’ provision. Dual registration will be available, allowing players to benefit from increased playing opportunities. Significant investment is being made into the setup of the team, including the appointment of a dedicated coach and the provision of free training. Players will also be encouraged to help design their own team shirts and choose a team name, helping to build a strong sense of identity and ownership.
To support the launch, the club is running a free girls’ taster session on Sunday 1st March, from 4:30–6:00pm at St John’s Sports Centre, Worcester. Places can be booked via womenandgirls.wncc@gmail.com.
Georgina Hall, Worcester Nomads’ Women and Girls Coordinator, said the club is “really excited to be launching its very first girls’ team this year.” She added that it represents “a fantastic opportunity to increase participation in the game, with players benefiting from being part of a team, making new friends, gaining confidence and staying active.” She also highlighted the importance of a clear pathway into senior cricket, with hopes that players will progress into the club’s women’s teams in the future.
Worcester Nomads prides itself on being a “One Club,” offering a welcoming, family-friendly environment. The club currently fields three senior teams in the Worcestershire County League, a Sunday friendly side, and women’s softball and hardball teams. Its junior programme begins at All Stars, with teams across all age groups and clear integration into the senior sides.
