Street Cricket team join WCF Junior Indoor League

December marked a big moment for some of Worcestershire Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine Street participants, as six of them took part in a team entered into the Under 13s Super60 Smash KO Cup (indoor club cricket competition).

Chance to Shine Street is a community cricket project designed to bring cricket into non-traditional settings. It is aimed at 8-15 year olds who may not have discovered cricket previously or are looking to gain confidence in the sport. They are fun, inclusive weekly sessions where young people can learn the game at their own pace. All sessions are free to attend.

The players were from across three hubs running in the Dudley-area. Despite half the team not having any previous competitive experience, including putting on pads and helmets, they managed to win their opening match against Pedmore, before falling to defeat against Halesowen. They all had a great time and are keen to take these experiences forward into more competitive opportunities.

Going into the new year, there is now a Street team entered into the U11s Indoor League (North), which includes four fixtures, giving more young people the chance to compete against establoished cricket clubs and develop the skills they have been developing during their weekly soft ball sessions.
